Your Next Opportunity

The MBD Specialist will join a dynamic business environment and work in close consultation with the Strategic Advisor, Directors, Office Management Partners, practice groups and team members to develop and advance a broad range of internal and external marketing and business development activities.  They will demonstrate a client-focused approach with excellent communication, organizational skills, and the ability to achieve both short-term results while supporting longer-term strategies. We are looking for two Specialists to support our Vancouver and Calgary offices respectively.

Please note that this role offers a hybrid workweek. Each week will combine both working at home for a few days and working in the office for the balance. Your hybrid schedule will start once you join McMillan!

What You’ll Do

Events, Sponsorships, Advertising and Awards:

  • Identify and assess client event, advertising and strategic sponsorship opportunities
  • Assist with creation and execution of client events liaising with lead lawyers, updating mailing lists, developing invitations, managing responses, feedback and reporting through marketing automation and CRM systems
  • Identify opportunities to expand the profile of McMillan in the market through speaking engagements, media, social media, etc.
  • Support the development of promotional content for distribution and external publication, including digital and social media, trade magazines, sponsorships/awards, recruitment, and community involvement projects;
  • Support the coordination and participation in award nomination and submission processes
  • Create and monitor event schedules and identify and resolve issues as they arise.
  • Track expenses, monitor budgets and report on event leads and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with MBD Event Management team members to support best practice protocols
  • Support CASL/GDPR compliance related to data collection and management

Practice Group Support:

  • Provide local market support for practice group business plans, activities and related budget management
  • Support key client program deliverables
  • Source and coordinate content development and delivery of collateral materials, branded items, related advertising and promotional materials.

National Projects

  • Provide support for the strategic plan’s core areas of industry and practice focus
  • Provide support for CRM, online digital and social media, website
  • Content Strategy – bulletins, announcements, website, strategic plan

Administration

  • Coordinate the assessment and approval process for marketing and BD initiatives
  • Assist with processing the Department’s account payables and cheque requisitions
  • Maintain necessary filing and document management systems
  • Other duties as assigned

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in communications, marketing, sales or a related field
  • 4-6 years related experience. Professional services environment an asset
  • Highly effective project management, prioritization, multi-tasking and time management skills
  • Effective decision-making skills and ability to work independently
  • Strong client-service orientation
  • Excellent writing skills, outstanding verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Superior technical skills (including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Basic knowledge of web CMS systems, HTML and CSS
  • Available to work outside the regular business hours of 9 AM to 5 PM as needed.
