The Position
Boughton Law Corporation is looking to welcome a Human Resources Manager to the management team. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Human Resources Manager will plan, lead, direct, develop and coordinate policies and activities of the Firm, ensuring legal compliance and implementation of the Firm’s talent management strategy.
In this role, you will:
- Provide coaching, counseling and consulting services to employees and management on HR related issues (e.g. performance management, employee relations, benefits).
- Ensure the Firm is legally compliant by monitoring and implementing applicable human resources legislative requirements, conduct investigations, and maintain records/updates.
- Lead, develop and implement effective firm-wide HR programs and services to meet strategic long and short-term needs of the firm.
- Develop, administer and interpret HR policies and practices.
- Provide recruitment services for all support positions (Paralegals, Legal Administrative Assistants (LAA), Managers, Accounting, Marketing, IT, Office Services, and support staff) including job placement, pre-screening candidates, liaising with agencies, coordination of interviews, shortlisting of candidates for second interviews and reference/background checks.
- Administer compensation programs and ensure that they are in line with established industry salary structures to ensure competitive and equitable pay practices are maintained. Conduct market data analysis for salary increases and pay bands.
- Innovate the traditional law firm staffing model.
- Implement and maintain the performance management process including annual performance reviews and related performance improvement programs.
- Evaluates and recommends ongoing professional development and training for staff.
- Establish, monitor and review annual budgets for the HR department.
- Coach and develop direct reports (HR Generalist, Payroll & Benefits Coordinator and Training Specialist).
- Oversee the payroll, benefits and pension plans.
- Serve as a member of the Health & Safety committee and Associate Development Committee.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Graduate of a University or College Program in Human Resources Management.
- CPHR designation an asset.
- 7 – 10 years of progressive Human Resources experience.
- Previous experience in a professional services firm is considered an asset.
- Ability to stay calm and respectful when under pressure.
- Proven ability to lead and define direction for new or revised programs, processes, policies, standards and operational plans based upon the firm’s long term strategies.
- Thorough knowledge of employment related laws and statutes.
- Proven success in navigating through employee relations issues with solutions that meet the needs of the firm and the parties involved.
- Excellent problem solving, analytical and critical thinking abilities.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of the organization/firm.
- Excellent writing skills and proven ability to develop clear and concise communication.
- Demonstrated ability to have a positive impact on the internal business results.
