General Accountability

The IT Operations Manager, is responsible for the smooth and efficient operation of Farris’s internal helpdesk team of two, while also assisting with IT infrastructure and security. The role will report to the Director of IT, and will require a very hands on approach and to focus on continually improving the operations, and upgrading systems to support a growing business. The IT Operations Manager will have oversight and ownership of all projects on the current three-year IT rolling roadmap.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage the Helpdesk team and continually improve service standards and end-user satisfaction.
  • Act as senior escalation point for helpdesk issues or infrastructure emergencies.
  • Support your team with feedback, learning opportunities, career coaching, and technical help.
  • Oversee maintenance of office equipment including computers, office printers, label printers, and photocopiers.
  • Set hardware replacement cycles, overseeing proactive and cost-effective upgrades.
  • Maintain accurate and well-organized IT equipment inventory.
  • Recommend and implement solutions to automate basic desktop tasks.
  • Build and maintain technical documentation, system diagrams, and training materials.
  • Be a point of contact for desktop security initiatives.
  • Drive the technical roadmap and development plans in alignment with Farris’s business strategies and priorities.
  • Assist with preparing annual departmental budgets and technology roadmaps.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a leadership role, ideally managing a helpdesk team.
  • 5+ years hands-on experience configuring and managing IT infrastructure.
  • Diploma, degree, or equivalent post-secondary education in technology field.
  • Relevant certifications (CompTIA, CCNA, MCSE, etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with the following technologies:
    • Microsoft 365 and Intune
    • Cloud infrastructure (Azure)
    • Physical and virtual firewalls (Sophos)
    • Backup and restore (Veeam)
    • Server virtualization (VMWare)
    • Storage arrays, SANs, and NAS (HP Nimble)
    • Phone systems, including VOIP and UC systems
    • Windows Server, Windows Domain, Active Director
  • Experience working in a law firm or professional services environment is preferred.
  • The following experience is considered an asset but not a requirement in the role:
    • Familiarity with hyper-converged infrastructure
    • SQL (queries, replication monitoring)
    • Automation and scripting (Powershell, Bash, etc)
    • Project management training or certification
